Our Mandate

The primary responsibilities of the TWPCB is to make recommendations to the Provincial Minister of Environment and Conservation in relation to the conservation and management measures of wildlife, plants, and habitat in the Labrador Inuit Settlement Area. TWPCB has decision making power to establish Total Allowable Harvest levels for non-migratory species of wildlife and plants.

The Torngat Wildlife & Plants Co-Management Board (TWPCB) collaborates with government agencies, Inuit communities, and stakeholders to ensure sustainable wildlife practices. Our focus is on protecting biodiversity while respecting Inuit knowledge and traditions, fostering a balanced approach to conservation.

Preserving natural habitats is key to maintaining ecological balance in the Labrador Inuit Settlement Area. TWPCB has the authority to recommend the establishment of protected areas, leading to habitat conservation strategies that support the health of local ecosystems and communities.

TWPCB has the authority to establish Total Allowable Harvest levels for non-migratory wildlife and plants. Through scientific research and traditional knowledge, we develop sustainable harvest plans that protect natural resources while supporting the cultural and economic needs of Inuit communities.
